On Thursday morning, INM Events organised a Brexit Breakfast at Trinity College, sponsored by Allianz to discuss the implications of Brexit on Irish Businesses. The INM editorial team were joined by special guests, An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, renowned businessman Niall FitzGerald and leading entrepreneur Anne Heraty for an in depth morning of discussion on Brexit, what it means for Ireland and Irish businesses. This intimate breakfast event heard from key speakers and also gave listeners the chance to ask questions and raise any issues they had.
An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, addressed queries from the audience regarding the UK’s pending transition, the Government working on building new relations with countries in the Benelux and Nordic countries, as well as central and Eastern Europe and the effect it may have on Ireland’s transatlantic business relations.
He said the UK has achieved zero in its negotiations with the EU. But he said it would be wrong to think the UK electorate would change its mind. “This may change, particularly confronted with the true horror of a hard Brexit. But for now, the working assumption must be that Brexit is inevitable,” he said.
Cliona Carroll, Sponsorship and Events Manager, INM “Businesses across the Island of Ireland are watching to see what effect Brexit will have on their sector. Events of this nature create an opportunity for business leaders, government & editors to come together to openly discuss the challenges faced. We are very pleased to welcome Allianz as sponsor of this mornings Brexit Breakfast briefing & look forward to the next event within the INM Business Series.”
Speaking about Allianz Ireland’s sponsorship of the event, Damien O’Neill of Allianz Ireland said: “Allianz has supported communities on the island of Ireland for many decades now. And our sponsorship has travelled across arts, business, sport and community development. The golden thread in this approach is that insurance moves from being something inert to being an enabler of potential. The INM Brexit breakfast and the reporting of it will start conversations and debates in communities right across the island and aid the identification and creation of opportunities that are as yet unknown. So sponsoring this discussion with INM makes perfect sense for Allianz.”
