Independent News & Media, the leading news and media group in Ireland, is celebrating wins across the board, after receiving six awards at the prestigious Media Awards at a gala event on the 20th April in the Clayton Hotel attended by marketers and media industry professionals.
INM’s Gerry Lennon, Managing Director of the Sunday World and the Irish Daily Star was honoured with the prestigious Media Hero award. The media group had been shortlisted for 12 of the 22 categories, more than any other Irish publisher.
Ireland’s leading media publisher also took home the top prizes, securing Gold spots for: Best Collaboration Between Agency and Media Owner – Multimedia for The BFC – The Big Friendly Collaboration; and for Best Research Initiative with ‘The Book of Evidence,’ an econometrics study published by INM in May. This was the largest piece of research independently conducted by a publisher in Ireland, spanning over three years and 20 million data points.
‘The Book of Evidence’ was also commended with a silver award in the Best Sales Initiative category; with silver also coming in for the Best Collaboration Between Agency and Media owner – Multimedia on the ‘IKEA – It Starts With The Food’ initiative.
For the second consecutive year, the company was nominated for Media Brand of the Year, and they were honoured with a Bronze award in this category.
INM also received the top prize of Gold for Best Creative Direction / Execution by a Media Owner for Yoplait’s ‘I Love My Age’ campaign. Speaking on the win, Mitchell O’Gorman, Head of Advertising Innovation and Strategy, Independent News & Media said: “For the past 12 months, Independent News & Media has been championing creative investment in advertising, we see it as important as the investment in the media itself. Creativity is the lifeblood of the media industry, winning Gold for Creative Direction in the 2017 Media Awards is welcome recognition that a media owner, working closely with the brand and agency from the outset, can create brilliant content that delivers both financial growth for the brand and strong emotional engagement with our audience.”
Geoff Lyons, Commercial Director, Independent News & Media said: “We are delighted with our performance at this year’s Media Awards. Our focus on delivering what the consumer wants to read is also highlighted through the expanded product offering, which has been commended at the Media Awards. We have developed and expanded our products to cater for the diverse interests of our readers and advertisers.”
Remarking on the wins Karen Preston, Group Advertising Director, Independent News & Media said: “To take home six awards is a great honour, as the cream of Irish media campaigns were showcased at the awards. With the media landscape shifting and changing at the whim of technology and consumer trends, it’s critical to innovate our offerings to meet our clients’ changing needs. INM would like to congratulate all the companies that were shortlisted and all those that were award winners. It is a great industry to work in and the event highlights the talent in the Irish media industry at the moment.”
