Podcasts have undergone a massive rebirth in the last two years. Figures show that 28% of digital audio listeners in Ireland now listen to Podcasts (source IAB Connect Listen up survey 2019 by RedC). This is largely due to better connection speeds and the growth of on demand content. The main pull for podcasts is that they can be listened to anywhere at any time and allows users to drill down into niche knowledge areas. This provides a unique opportunity for brands to advertise in a truly captive environment directly to their target audience.
At INM we have been embracing this rebirth; in the past 3 years we have built our podcast portfolio on our core strengths as a publisher – Sports, News, Politics, Health and Education. We now have five hero podcasts along with a number of shorter special series such as our “Going to college” and “Partners in business” podcasts.
In 2018 we launched the first of our Business of podcasting seminars PodX – the morning event was sold out and was a real eye opener on the demand from planners who wanted to know much more about this media – how to buy, what to buy, how to measure, where the future lies. We had some excellent speakers from around the world including Eric Nuzum (producer of west cork and Ex Audible) bringing their learnings to the table.
